SCHOOL ASSOCIATION ROLE

Aim
The role of the School Association is to organize a variety of events for children and parents to join together for the benefit of the school. Whilst our activities are to raise money for the school, we try to do this by organizing entertaining events for all, such as children’s discos, film nights, Christmas Fayre, Easter extravaganza, parents quiz night, Summer Fayre.

Membership
Membership is open to all parents of children attending the school. The main committee is made up of an elected Chairperson, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. In addition there are several sub-committees which co-ordinate specific events, and many other volunteers. Many of the big events are successful because of parents doing smaller tasks as and when they can, often at home.

Meetings
The School Association meets once a month to plan forthcoming events, with sub-committee groups meeting at other times to organise specific events. All parents are openly welcome to attend the meetings. The association is always looking for additional help through attendance at committee meetings; by supporting events; and through sponsorship.

Forthcoming events can be found on the school’s website, outdoor noticeboards and by parentmail.

Funds raised by the School Association
The activities of the School Association over the years from 2002 to 2009 have raised an amazing sum of £60,000 and some of the funds have contributed to:
• 2 interactive whiteboards
• 2 large TVs, DVD players and video equipment
• A projector, laptop computer and sound system
• Partial funding of ICT suite
• Additional musical instruments, including five new keyboards
• Approximately 500 new or replacement books for the school library
• Outdoor play equipment for Reception, KS1 and KS2
• Redesign of the kitchen area in the Link
• Outdoor wooden adventure play area

SFSA Calendar of Events - 2010 / 11

All tickets are sold in 'The Link' outside the staffroom on Mondays and Thursdays before and after school.

2010

November 1 (Monday) : 7.3pm AGM followed by normal SFSA meeting at 8.00pm - Everyone welcome

November 12 (Friday) : Chocoholics morning 8.45-11am in the staffroom

November 12 (Friday) : Children’s film night (years 1 to 6 only) - Toy Story 3

November 15 (Monday) :
- Tickets for Santa's grotto at the Xmas Fayre go on sale
- School Disco tickets go on sale (Friday 10 December)
- Help Board for Xmas Fayre - please sign up to help for half an hour at the Xmas Fayre so that all the planned games and stalls can go ahead. The board will be in 'The Link' and will move down to outside KS1 towards the end of the week.

November 19 (Friday) : Inset Day - Discount price at Basingstoke Ice Rink from 11.15 to 3.30pm, £5.40 Adults and £3.70 Child (incl skate hire for both). Just tell them you are from St Francis School before you pay.

November 22 (Monday) : Donations for the Xmas Fayre of soft toys and 2nd-hand books to be left at the school office until Friday 3rd December.

November 26 (Friday) :
- Non-uniform day - please donate a red, green or gold item for the Christmas Tombola
- Cake plates sent home to be returned on Friday 3rd December with cakes to sell at the Xmas Fayre
- Raffle tickets sent home - return ticket stubs (with name and contact phone number on EVERY stub) and money to SFSA post box near the staffroom or Raffle Table on the day of the fayre.

November 29 (Thursday) :
- Last day to buy your Santa's Grotto tickets
- Santa's Post box - Write a letter to Santa and get a reply before the end of term, more details to follow.

December 3 (Friday) : Bring your Cakes to the Church before School

December 4 (Saturday) : Christmas Fayre 12.30 til 3.00

December 8 – 10 (Wednesday – Friday) : Children can buy a present for their Parents, £2 each. Child to bring money on the day assigned for each year group.

December 10 (Friday) : Children’s disco (all years)

December 12 (Sunday) : Pantomime at Theatre Royal, Winchester (Peter Pan)

School Funds website is a reward scheme which involves online retailers including NEXT, Tesco, Boots, Comet, Adams, Currys. The aim is to provide supplementary equipment for schools by having one collective scheme involving online retailers and internet companies, maximising the reward potential. By individuals using the website as a directory to find and purchase goods and services online, funds are raised for equipment for the School. Reward points are collected for every purchase, which can be exchanged by the School Association for educational equipment, e.g. music, sports, clubs, library, etc. Funds are raised every time someone links to a company via the 'school funds' website and a unique school tracking code specific to the School is transmitted to that company. Should anything be purchased, the company advises 'school funds' of the reward value. The points raised are either a specified amount for a purchase or proportionate to the amount of the purchase. An example of the reward value is for 5000 points raised this will provide £25 worth of equipment for the School. The reward points available for each purchase are displayed by the company in each category. When using the 'school funds' website for the first time a message is displayed at the top of the page for a school to be selected. Once selected, whenever the link is used in the future to any of the listed retailers the School will receive points for every purchase. The reward points are detailed by each company and can vary from a few points for every £1(GB Pound) to many thousands for insurance policies, mobile phone contracts, etc. When a supplier's name or logo is clicked, that company's webpage is opened in a new browser window. The School reference code is automatically transmitted to the company and the company in turn advises 'school funds' of the award should the link result in a sale. Parents, friends, teachers, businesses, can use the scheme to support the School.

Dear Parents

As your child has now been at the school for two terms and you have hopefully experienced some of the events organised by the St Francis School Association (PTA), we thought that we would write to you to see if you are able to offer any form of help or support to the Association. The main group of parent helpers are parents of Achildren in Years 2 and above and we are very keen to gain help from parents of younger children so that we have a constant flow of helpers over the years as people leave the school.

Currently when fliers are sent out for events a request is usually added for parent helpers, to make life easier we would like to keep a central record [1] of helper names and details which can be used for each event. One parent would look after this and would contact individuals to arrange helpers for each event. Help is needed in a variety of ways. Attending the monthly meetings is not essential (but we do need some new people with new ideas) as this is a very small part of the Association’s remit, but more importantly what is needed is help to prepare for events, both before and on the day itself (about an hour of your time at an event would be fantastic).

If you are interested in your name being held by the School Association we would be grateful if you could complete the form below and return it to the School Office. We appreciate all help and hope that you understand that the fun events for your children cannot be run without parents volunteering to help.
